Within ENRESA's Strategic Systems Plan, one of the priority areas for optimizing the decommissioning processes of Spanish nuclear power plants was the development of a digital solution that would provide all stakeholders with advanced tools for the comprehensive management of the waste generated during these processes. This initiative not only sought to incorporate best practices in the sector, but also to define future organizational needs that would enable business processes to be optimized in a more efficient and sustainable manner.
INGECID was awarded this project for €2,938,445.52 with a completion period of 60 months. The company was responsible for the ad hoc design and development of the new digital solution, based on the comprehensive collaborative management platform VIRCORE. The proposal was based on the versatility and scalability of the different modules currently offered by VIRCORE, which were adapted to meet ENRESA's specific needs, while ensuring compliance with current nuclear regulations and BIM (Building Information Modeling) methodology. The latter, which is increasingly being adopted by public bodies and private companies, provides added value in terms of efficiency, traceability, and optimization of complex project management.
The INGECID team developed new tools and specific functionalities that expanded VIRCORE's capabilities in the nuclear field, covering aspects such as authorization monitoring, waste management and traceability, data analysis, and asset monitoring. These innovations enabled more accurate and transparent management of all information generated during the decommissioning life cycle.
To ensure the functional and technical suitability of the solution, INGECID carried out a comprehensive requirements analysis that allowed it to define the characteristics of each tool. On this basis, a strategic development plan was implemented, based on agile methodologies, which facilitated the progressive delivery of minimum viable products and continuous interaction with ENRESA throughout the project.
In addition, INGECID's proposal ensured seamless and secure integration between the different platforms that make up ENRESA's technological ecosystem. Thanks to VIRCORE's flexibility and interoperability, the resulting solution enabled a constant flow of up-to-date information, ensuring fast, reliable, and secure access to the data generated during the different phases of decommissioning. This optimized processes, strengthened operational efficiency, and advanced toward fully digitized waste management in the nuclear field.
